Meet Scott Simmons, a veteran technology Enterprise Architect who has masterfully pivoted from designing complex global IT systems to architecting solutions for the planet’s most urgent challenge: climate change.
With a career spanning nearly 40 years, Scott brings the precision of a software engineer and the strategic mind of a CTO to the front lines of climate advocacy. Today, He is a prominent Climate Reality Leader and co-leads the Northern Colorado chapter of The Climate Reality Project.

Q. Could you share a pivotal moment or experience that ignited your passion for Climate Advocacy and sustainability?
Scott: As a child in the sixties and seventies, I was very focused on the environment. I campaigned for pro-climate legislators, marched in protest, and cleaned up oil spills. I did a MS in biology and now in retirement, I focus exclusively on trying to save our planet.
Q. What gives you hope for the future of our planet and the role of leadership in achieving a sustainable world?
Scott: Frankly as of late, very little. I am encouraged by China assuming our role as the world’s green technology power. Its devastating that we have an administration that has no clue about science.
Q. If you could implement one major policy or initiative or research to advance sustainability globally, what would it be and why?
Scott: Implementing a carbon tax that taxes carbon as it comes out of the ground. Also, provide a market based approach focused on border adjustment and credit/rebates to masses.
