Lets hear from Angelyn P., Founder
Our organization name is “To Tell a Tale”
we are a student led fiscal sponsored 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is dedicated to providing a creative and engaging way to teach neurodivergent and underprivileged children especially with learning disabilities to be confident with biology/ STEAM concepts. We create a curriculum which focuses on interactive learning art projects and multisensory methods, STEM sensory kits, online guides and visual videos, and building a community that fosters the importance of highlighting neurodivergent learners everywhere.
How many members do you have, and what is the typical “vibe” of a meeting?
We have around 35+ active members ranging from curriculum creators (those who help create the curriculum), artists, our executive board members, social media coordinators, and workshop leaders! We are always looking for more members and we have just opened applications for chapters!
What specific branches of science do you focus on
In general we are all STEAM! In fact, we are currently creating lessons for kitchen chemistry, geometry through fashion design, and neuroscience.
What is the most ambitious project
One of our ambitious projects have been opening chapters and designing a brand new curriculum. Both of these have been challenging but have been so rewarding on trying to complete these goals.
What has been the club’s proudest moment in the last 12 months and contribution to the local or the border community?
This organization originally started as a local initiative as I (Angelyn) would teach these STEAM lessons that she had created in her local community centers and schools to over 250+ kids! This summer I wanted to expand my mission to people in different areas in the world because I find so much joy teaching students as I started this project as a response to being a visual learner and having friends with neurodiversity struggle with a “one size fits all” curriculum.
What are the long-term goals for the club
Long term goals include finishing our curriculum, finishing our children’s book that we have collaborated with another student organization, and helping our chapters grow our mission! We are so excited for the rest of the year and many more to come 🙂
Anything else you would like to say to ecolyst.org readers?
As we started this organization due to our personal struggles of not having learning to be interactive and tangible, we hope ecolyst readers keep an eye out on what else in the world that needs to be improved in their local area! Being obersvant about your world is so important in your relationships, community and yourself 🙂
