TREES
By Katherine L. (5th Grade)
Oh the trees,
They have lived longer than us,
They have lived longer than cavemen who lived in the icy era.
They have lived longer than the bones of the dinosaur.
We chop them down
Yet they resist.
They spread their arms out wide,
Little green petals emerging.
They give us shade and air
Yet we chop them down.
They give us a beautiful world to look at.
Where there once were trees, an ugly slab of land.
The trees have the learned wisdom of an old man.
If only we listened oh so very carefully,
We could know what had happened in a thousand years.
