Most people
Most people go to college to gain skills, knowledge, and qualifications that open up better career opportunities. It also is a place for personal development, helping students find and pursue their passions. Yet despite this, two famous exceptions come to mind, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg. These college dropouts: Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, and Bill Gates, founder Microsoft both left college early and went on to become highly influential figures in the world. However, while these stories are inspiring, they are also the exceptions. For most people, a college education provides valuable skills, connections, and opportunities that can still lead to long-term success. Not everybody can become successful just because they dropped out of college.
Numerous studies
Numerous studies, including one conducted at Stanford, show that college graduates generally have better career prospects and higher lifetime earnings than those without a degree. In fact, many of today’s leaders, such as Supreme Court justices, executives, and influential figures across various industries, are college graduates. College helps build essential skills, fosters critical thinking, and provides an environment for intellectual and personal growth.
College offers an environment where students can explore different fields, discover their interests, and build essential skills for the workforce. Unlike high school, college allows for specialization, giving students a chance to focus on specific areas and help them discover strengths and weaknesses.College also brings together people from various backgrounds and creates opportunities for mentorship, friendships, and professional connections that can be helpful in the future.
Furthermore, college is more than just academics; it’s a transformative time for many young adults. Beyond textbooks and exams, college life introduces students to new ideas, challenges, and perspectives. This experience often leads to greater independence and better self-awareness.

It’s true that some entrepreneurs and innovators, like Zuckerberg and Gates, left college to pursue their dreams. But these individuals often had unique skills, resources, or access to mentorship that enabled them to succeed without a degree. For the vast majority, however, college provides a competitive edge, offering knowledge and resources that are difficult to acquire independently.
While not everyone needs a college degree to be successful, a college education remains a powerful asset for most people. It provides a foundation of skills, and a structured environment for personal growth. For those unsure of their path or looking to maximize their potential, college can be a valuable step toward a successful career later in life. So, while a few exceptional individuals may not need college, for many, college is still a worthwhile investment in their future and society as a whole.

Why does this help the environment? A more educated society benefits not just the individual but also the environment. People will take more care about the earth and more equipped with knowledge about food and environmental conservation.
